US stocks rise on stimulus speculation
Washington - Major US stock indices built Friday on the previous session's gain amid investor speculation that a coordinated central bank action awaits any bad news that may stem from the Greek election Sunday.
The world awaits Sunday’s vote, which could decide if Greece is to be the first country to leave 17-member euro zone.The blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 115.26 points, or 0.91 per cent, to 12,767.17. The broader Standard & Poor’s 500 Index gained 13.74 points, or 1.03 per cent, to 1,342.84. The technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index rose 36.47 points, or 1.29 per cent, to 2,872.8.
The US currency slipped to 79.14 euro cents from 79.16 euro cents on Thursday. The dollar fell against the Japanese currency to 78.73 yen from 79.37 yen.//DPA
