5 senior Education Ministry officials face penalties over amulet sale

Five top executives at Office of the Welfare Promotion Commission for Teachers and Education Personnel (OTEP) will be facing serious punishment over a questionable project to produce Buddha Sotorn amulets for sale.

The project's advertisements made many people believe the proceeds from the sale will go to Mahamakut Buddhist University.

The university's logo was also used without permission.

"The university has said it's not involved in the project in anyway," Education Minister Jurin Laksanawisit said Thursday.

Headed by the Education Ministry's inspector general Sunan Thepsri, a fact-finding committee has concluded that the five top executives of OTEP as well as some relevant officials there should be punished.
