Cabinet appoints new permanent secretary for foreign affairs

Theerakul Niyom, Thai ambassador to South Korea, becomes new permanent secretary for foreign ministry.

Cabinet endorsed the appointment during its weekly cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

It was a late appointment for the position because the appointment is usually done before September.

Theerakul is a dark horse for the position as earlier reports mentioned other senior officials, including Ambassador to Norway Jullapong Nonsrichai and Ambassador to UN Don Pramudwina.
