Thailand's top classical musicians are coming together for an evening of chamber music in a concert titled "Quintessence: A Musical Reunion", this Sunday at 6pm, at the Church of Christ.
A joint effort between Ibycus, VieTrio and the Nova Siam Quartet, the show marks the reunion of three Thais living abroad and two expatriates, who will be playing a programme of works for piano quintet, string quartet and solo piano.
Pianist Pornphan Banternghansa returns to make her much anticipated first appearance since receiving her doctorate in music from New York's prestigious Eastman School of Music.
Paye Srinarong, a New York-based violinist and leader of the renowned VieTrio makes his return to the Thai stage along with his friends from the Nova Siam Quartet: The Netherlands-based violist Pisoot Saay-Op-Oua, London-born violinist Michael Allen and cellist Yukihisa Nakagawa of Japan.
This promises to be a lively and entertaining highlight on the music calendar, with the five stars aiming to present a whole new perspective on classical performance.
The programme includes Haydn's "Fifths" ("String Quartet Op 76 No 2"), Chopin's "Scherzo No 2", York Bowen's "Toccata for solo piano", and a real crowd-pleaser, Dvorak's "Piano Quintet Op 81".
