A committee will be established to review the plan, under the supervision of the National Economic and Social Development Board. The review will take 1 month to complete, and the result will be submitted to the Cabinet.
The resolution was made despite Transport Minister Sophon Saram's agreement to reduce the bus leasing cost from Bt69 billion, to Bt67 billion and lastly Bt64 billion.
Forty senators threatened to vote against the government's Bt400 billion emergency borrowing if the Cabinet endorsed the project, citing that there contain a number of questions.
Sophon said after the Cabinet's meeting that he welcomed the resolution.
Still, he insisted that the leasing is the most reasonable proposal, while noting that during the 1-month study, Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) would lose Bt16 million a day.
To Sophon, the resolution does not reflect the political rift, but would affect Bangkok people who have to suffer from poor services.
