Ampon appointed THAI chairman

Thai Airways International directors on Thursday appointed Ampon Kittiampon, secretary-general of the National Economic and Social Development Board, as the new chairman.
Wallop Bhukkanasut was appointed as Chairman of the Executive Board Committee, and Pichai Chunhavajira as Chairman of the Turnaround Steering Committee.
All appointments take effect immediately.
Earlier, it was expected that Surachai Tansitpong, permanent secretary for Transport Ministry, would be re-appointed as the airline's chairman.
Ampon will have to work with the new president in reviving the national carrier, which last year lost over Bt20 billion due to global economic and domestic political turbulence.
