Pachyderms on parade

Thai elephants are huge, intelligent and fast and the best place to see them up close is at the 2009 King's Cup Elephant Polo Tournament, which kicks off on Monday and runs through March 29 at Anantara Golden Triangle Resort. Unique as the elephant itself, this exotic tournament brings together the local and international polo players plus many beautiful people. The tournament, which raises money for the National Elephant Institute, opens with an eyepopping elephant parade and end in style with a charitable dinner.

Good morning sunshine

See the sunrise from a different perspective by heading up to the Shiva ruin of Prasat Phanom Rung in Buri Ram province on April 3 and watching as the sun casts its rays perfectly through the 15 doorways of the 75 metre-long corridors. The morning sun, it's observed, illuminates Shiva lingam. Dedicated to Hindu god Shiva, Prasat Phanom Rung is an ancientKhmerstyled temple located on top of an extinct volcano in Thailand's Northeast.

Marathon man

Phuket might be most famous for its white sandy beaches and deep blue sea, but it's also getting a serious reputation for the best beach marathon destination.

The Forth Laguna Phuket International Marathon takes place on June 14 at Laguna Phuket and offers something for all fitness fanatics, from a 2km kid run through a 10km fun run to a full marathon.

Registration is open with an early bird discount fee until March 31. Accommodation packages at Laguna Phuket are also available. Visit www.PhuketMarathon.com.

Domestic flights return to Suvarnabhumi

All TG domestic flights will fly out from Suvarnabhumi Airport from March 29 onwards, confirms the national flag-carrier.

Thai Airways International (THAI) reaffirms that the company will move its domestic operations from Don Mueang Airport to Suvarnabhumi Airport to satisfy and maximise passengers' benefits.

By shifting all flights to Suvarnabhumi Airport, THAI will achieve a strategic objective of promoting the airport as a major THAI and Star Alliance hub, which will play a major role in promoting economic growth for Thailand. The move will enable THAI to develop network of operations, improve handling efficiency and reduce operating costs. It will also increase convenience for passengers.
