Slumdog Millionaire," director Danny Boyle's feel-good tale of a Mumbai orphan's escape from poverty, won eight Oscars, including best picture.

Honors for "Slumdog" included a best-director statuette for Boyle and adapted screenplay for Simon Beaufoy at the 81st Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles, telecast tonight by Walt Disney Co.'s ABC.
