TAT launches 'Bird' TV ad to boost domestic travel

The Tourism Authority of Thailand yesterday launched a TV commercial featuring superstar Thongchai (Bird) McIntyre aimed at encouraging domestic tourism.

The commercial is part of TAT's campaign "Bustling Thai Tourism, Burgeoning Thai Economy", which encourages local people to spend their vaca¬tion in the country in order to aid the economy.

TAT governor Phornsiri Manoharn said the Thongchai TV spot would help the TAT to restore domestic tourism dur¬ing this crisis.

"Local people are now more concerned than ever about spending money for holidays. But Thongchai is trusted by everyone," she added.

The TAT and GMM Grammy campaign has a budg¬et of more than Bt60 million, of which Bt20 million will go to Thongchai and the rest on relat¬ed activities such as music videos, advertising, posters, photography competitions and radio ads.

Thongchai first teamed up with the TAT in 2005, to help restore tourism following the December 2004 tsunami.
