Royal balm

Her Majesty the Queen has graciously granted Bt100,000 through the Phetburi Red Cross Society to assist the family of a technical college student who sustained a serious head injury in a hazing ceremony last week.

Phetburi Governor Chai Panichpornpan yesterday morning delivered the money to the family of Polytechnic Krungthep Commercial School freshman Nirojsak Inthachote, 16.

His tearful mother Nanthaporn said the family was deeply grateful for the Queen's kindness and concern about the boy's condition, and the money would be used to pay Nirojsak's medical bills. She said a Siriraj Hospital doctor who had checked Nirojsak's condition reported no improvement, leaving the family clinging to slim hopes of a recovery.

On October 21, Nirojsak underwent emergency brain surgery at Muang PetchThon Buri Hospital for a head injury reportedly suffered during a hazing at a Chao Samran Beach resort.
