UN and foreign countries urge Thailand and Cambodia to use restraints

United Nations and foreign countries have come out on Thursday to urge Thailand and Cambodia to use restraints in handling the border dispute which caused the deadly fights on Wednesday.

Two Cambodian soldiers were reportedly killed and a number of Thai troopers were injured during exchange of fires, which started after Cambodian troops opened fires.

United Nation's secretary general Ban Ki Moon expressed deep concern on the exchange of fires along the border.

He called on "both parties to exercise utmost restraint and urges them to expedite bilateral talks so that their differences can be resolved peacefully."

The US and England also urged both countries to show restraint.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said "We would urge restraint on both sides, to refrain from any use of violence or any provocation to the other side, and to resolve what are clear differences over a border area."

UK's junior foreign minister Bill Rammel said: "I urge both sides to exercise restraint and take immediate steps to ease tension and find a peaceful solution to this dispute, through bilateral discussions."
