People Power Party splits over Samak's nomination

People Power Party split on Thursday afternoon on the re-nomination of Samak Sundaravej for the post of prime minister.

If Samak is nominated in the Parliament to take the post of prime minister on Friday, a group of 70 PPP MP will abstain, said PPP MP Preecha Rengsombunsuk.

The group will not attend a meeting of the party scheduled around 6pm, he said.

Meanwhile PPP spokesman Kudeb Saikrajang said nomination of Samak was agreed in a party meeting. He said discussion is needed with the group to settle the difference of opinions.
