Sondhi backs Democrats to rule

Anti-government protest leader Sondhi Limthongkul yesterday told the foreign media that the Democrat Party was the best choice to run the country after fresh elections following a House dissolution.

Meanwhile Abhisit has rejected the idea of an unelected prime minis¬

ter and is placing his faith in a Senate-House joint meeting.

Abhisit said any political change should be under the Constitution to

prevent further complications.

"What we can do to help at this time is start the parliamentary

process and find how people can discuss matters, but the specific pro¬

posal at the moment is not likely to be agreed on. We must wait until the

atmosphere has cooled down and people agree to talk," he said.

Abhisit said the joint convention should yield good solutions but it

was still up to the government to choose a House meeting or a joint

meeting.

Democrat proportionate-representation MP Somkiat Pongpaiboon is

one of the People's Alliance for Democracy leaders.

Abhisit said he could not see how the appointment of an unelected

prime minister could be implemented without a constitutional amend¬

ment, which was not likely to materialise soon.
