Bus fare hikes take effect from Monday

Private bus operators in metropolitan Bangkok can raise their fares immediately, after authorities had suspended the proposed increases for several months.

An injunction on fare increases by the Central Administrative Court was lifted yesterday by the Supreme Administrative Court. It had earlier been sought by the People's Network

Opposing Public BusFare Hikes.

Thanks to the order, Private Bus Development Association president Chatchai Chaiviset said bus operators could instantly bring their fares up to the level proposed in May.

From Monday, fares on private airconditioned buses will rise Bt1, while fares on nonairconditioned buses, minibuses and passenger trucks will rise to Bt10, Bt8 and Bt7.50 from the earlier levels of Bt8.50, Bt7 and Bt6.50.
