Passage II

The recent Cannes Film Festival brought US$20 million in sales of Thai movie distribution rights and plots. Surasak Sunpitakseree, secretary of the Federation of National Film Associations of Thailand, said recently that Sahamongkol Film walked away with $14 million, mainly from distribution rights to "Ong Bak 2", the sequel to the action flick, and pre-sales of Nonzee Nimibutr's big budget "Puen Yai Jom Salad" (Queens of Langkasuka). Both productions are still shooting. Although this year's sales at Cannes fell far short of last year's $27-million take, Thai films have gained credibility as marketable Asian movies, he said.
