It is not right to punish the entire party for one man's wrongdoings," Samak said in reference to the electoral fraud conviction against party executive Yongyuth Tiyapairat.
Samak said the political system would collapse if the People Power, Chart Thai, Matchima Thipataya and Puea Pandin parties were dissolved. "I have heard that the Democrat Party might be disbanded too, and that would really be the end of politics," he added.
A fact-finding panel completed its report on Thursday recommending that the Constitution Court review the PPP's future. The Election Commission (EC) is expected on Tuesday to debate the report, paving the way for a trial.
EC member Prapun Naigowit said concerned parties should not rush into projecting doomsday scenarios, adding that the political system would continue functioning because MPs could retain their House seats under new banners even if their parties were dissolved.
Meanwhile, Democrat deputy leader and party-list MP Witoon Nambutr yesterday defended himself against electoral fraud allegations, saying all he had done was hand out movie tickets to voters.
If Witoon is found guilty and given a red card, then the Democrat Party could be disbanded.
