Karun released on bail

Former Senator Karun Saingam, a leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy was on Wednesday released on bail after he was arrested on Tuesday night on charges of encroachment on Khao Phanom Rung forest reserve.



Buri Ram Provincial Court allowed Karun to use his position as lawyer to bail himself. A former Senator was arrested at the check point in Surin's Muang District.

Karun has been accused of encroachment and the unauthorised clearing of two plots located within the Khao Phanom Rung Forest Reserve. The plots have a combined area of more than 3 rai.

The alleged encroachment came to light in May after forest ranger Manit Srisujan filed a complaint.
