Sipa to launch software incubation centre

Software Industry Promotion Agency (Sipa) is working with Khon Kaen University to establish a National Software Incubation Centre for promoting local software development in the northeastern part of Thailand.

The centre, which will be operated by Sipa Khon Kaen, will be set up in a 500-rai space at the Software Industrial Estate located within the Khon Kaen University campus.

Sipa Khon Kean branch manager Thawatchai Khotwong said the four-year project aims to develop at least 20,000 to 25,000 software developers annually in the northeastern region. It is expected to begin operation by October.

The centre will provide the infrastructure, software-development tools and training programmes. Along with local software developers, the programmes will also be open to information-technology students from the 50 educational institutes in the region.

"We hope the centre will provide software developers to the local software industry and help companies that have recently set up operations in the region," Thawatchai said.

He said that in order to equip software trainees with a business skill set, the incubation centre has tied up with the University Business Incubator (UBI).

"The collaboration with UBI will enable us to offer a complete package of skills and training courses in business as well as technology, at the centre," Thawatchai said.

Because the centre will develop human resources for the software industry, it will support the establishment of the Software Industrial Estate, which will be up and running in the next two years.
