The warrant was issued after Karun, who is a leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy, twice refused to report to the authorities for questioning, Provincial Police Region 3 deputy commissioner Maj-General Amnuay Mahaphon said.
Amnuay dismissed speculation that Karun's alleged encroachment was linked to the vandalism at Prasat Khao Phanom Rung, a historical site within the forest reserve.
The alleged encroachment came to light in May after forest ranger Manit Srisujan filed a complaint.
Karun has been accused of encroachment and the unauthorised clearing of two plots located within the Khao Phanom Rung Forest Reserve. The plots have a combined area of more than 3 rai.
Two other suspects - villagers Prakob Jamikorn and Noppadol Jamikorn - remain at large. They are accused of being accomplices to Karun in the clearing of the forest land.
