Industrial manufacturing continues

Thailand's industrial manufacturing would show positive growth in the second half of this year, as they have adjusted to negative factors, according to the Industrial Economics Department.
Atchaka Sriboonruang Brimble, director-general of the department, said that the industrial manufacturing for 2008 would expand 6.6-71 per cent, despite higher energy prices and inflation. However, many industries have come under restructuring process and the export market remains positive as many importing countries still maintain high economic growth rates. While the US performed better than expected in the first quarter, the European Union and China still registered growth rates of 2.2 and 10.6 per cent, respectively.
"Yet, Thai manufacturers will need to closely monitor the situation. They also need plans to cope with rising oil prices and foreign exchange rates, while political conditions are not stabilised," she said.
