The second talk on border dispute continues in Siem Reap

The second talk between Thailand and Cambodia to ease the military stand-off at Preah Vihear Temple started on Monday in Cambodia's Siem Reap province.

The bilateral meeting of senior officials started at about 10am and the full meeting is expected to follow in the afternoon.

New Thai Foreign Minister Tej Bunnag, Permanent Secretary for foreign affairs Virasakdi Futrakul, Ambassador attached to the ministry Virachai Palasai, Armed Forces Border Affairs director Lt Gen Niphat Thonglek and the second Army Region Commander Lt Gen Sujit Sitthiprapa represented the Thai side in the morning session.

Cambodia was represented by Foreign Minister Hor Nam Hong, Senior Minister on border affairs Va Kim Hong, Deputy Foreign Minister Long Visalo, Army Commander in Chief Mia Suphia and Cambodian Ambassador to Thailand Ung Sean.

However the meeting appeared to be tense. Tej left the meeting room at about noon and went directly to meet the Thai delegation in a room nearby. He refused to talk to reporters, saying the meeting would continue in the afternoon.

As of 2.23pm, Tej still met the Thai delegation. The afternoon session which is scheduled to be at about 1.30pm is already postponed.

Before leaving for Siem Reap, Tej told reporters that the talk will focus on the 4.6 square kilometres where the Thai side regarded as overlapping area but were now occupied by Khmer vendors as well as on how to solve the military stand off at the controversial temple.

This is the second talk on the problem. The first talk between Thai Supreme Commander Gen Boonsang Niempradit and Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister Gen Tea Banh ended with no solution.
