n A healthier alternative to the ongoing coffee craze: espresso made from red tea. South African 'Red espresso' uses Rooibos, which is grown wild and hand-harvested from a single farm at the highest altitudes in South Africa's Cedarberg Mountains. A patented cut and method of preparation give red espresso richer flavour, colour and health properties than regular Rooibos, yet it is naturally caffeine-free and is claimed to contain five times more antioxidants than green tea.

n San Francisco-based TCHO has built a factory capable of producing 4,000 metric tonnes of its own chocolate a year. It is rethinking the way chocolate is made, mirroring processes and behaviours common in the online world. The company's dark chocolate is created in limited-run "beta editions" that are only available online and at its factory. Continuous development and customer feedback mean varieties are evolving, with new versions emerging as often as every 36 hours.
