Fewer oil smuggled through Southern border

Oil smuggling along the Southern border would fall following the excise tax waive, which narrows the gap of diesel from Malaysia and diesel in the Kingdom from Bt8 to Bt3 per litre, according to the Excise Department.

So far this year, 1.3 million of illegal diesel in the South has been seized, leading to the fines of altogether Bt45 million.

Mostly, each smuggling involves 1,000-2,000 litres.

Diesel excise tax will be waived to zero on July 25, from Bt2.30 per litre. Oil retailers said this would lead to a cut of pump price by Bt2.80 per litre.
