E85, cheap diesel oil from Russia will tackle energy crisis: Samak

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said his government would buy cheap diesel oil from Russia and support the use of E85 vehicles as parts of the government's measure to tackle energy crisis.



He said although he was an inexperience prime minster as his critics dubbed him, he has secured a deal with a Russia oil exporter to buy cheap diesel oil to distribute to cooperatives in the country.

Speaking during his Talk Samak Style programme, Samak said the oil from Russia would be sold to cooperatives at Bt8 cheaper than the market price.

He said there would be 200 outlets nationwide for distribution of the cheap diesel oil from Russia.

The first lot of cheap diesel oil from Russia would be imported in 60 days, he said.

He said his government would make it a national agenda to promote the use ethanol as alternative petrol and vehicles with engines ready for using petrol which is made up from 85 per cent of ethanol will receive a tax reduction and be required to pay taxes at the rate of 25 per cent.

He said his government would also regulate the growing of energy crops to make sure that the ethanol supply for making E85 petrol would not be in shortage in the future.
