Chopper crashes in Yala, killing 10 on board

Yala- Engine problems caused a military helicopter to crash here on Friday afternoon, killing all 10 on board. "The helicopter was with the Southern Border Provinces Peace Building Command," says Colonel Akara Tiparoj.



The engine failed during a routine flight.

As well as crew, the helicopter was carrying six police forensics officers headed to a Bannang Sata military base that was raided by militants recently. Three suspects are in custody.

The command has recovered the 10 dead and the helicopter wreckage.

The victims are Captain Pramote Purak, Lieutenant Rashen Sukha, Sergeant Major Ronnachit Kaewprasert, Sergeant Nopparat Worasen, Pol Capt Worapong Puttinin, Maneera Bantao, Captain Samart Palatphum, Sergeant Major Narin Nuanum, Sergeant Major Akradej Jantakul and Sergeant Taweesak Pongsapan.
