Taxi fare to rise 12 per cent this week

The Transport Ministry has approved the increase of taxi charges which will take effect upon publishing in the Royal Gazette, scheduled for later this week, Deputy Transport Minister Songsak Thongsri said on Wednesday.



The fare rise will average 12 per cent per trip regardless of travelling within Bangkok or to and from the capital and upcountry.

The start-up charge will remain at Bt35 for the first kilometer travelled. From 2 to 12 kilometers, the fare will be Bt5 per kilometer. For the distance of 12-to-20, the charge is Bt5.5 per kilometer. For 20-to-40, the charge is Bt6 per kilometer. For 40-to-60, the charge is Bt8.5 per kilometer.
