Farmers resume protests in Bangkok demanding debt-relief

About 2,000 protesting farmers on Wednesday resumed their rally near the central bank citing a lack of progress on debt relief as promised by the government in exchange for crowd dispersal last week.

Protest organiser Charin Duangdara said Deputy Prime Minister Sanan Kachornprasart failed to push for a speedy revamp of the Farmers Rehabilitation and Development Fund as pledged.

The existing fund management is seen as a hurdle to provide timely assistance to farmers for their loan repayments.

Charin said farmers were disappointed that the Tuesday's Cabinet meeting did not yield any tangible measures on farm debt relief.
