Thailand post customers can now track mail trucks

The technology has been introduced at the Thailandpost Logistics Centre and is aimed at large organisations and businesses.

Thailand Post has set up RFID readers and antenna at its Warehouse and Mail Centre which will check and record information from mail trucks in real time.

The company began using RFID solutions at the end of last year after a successful pilot a few years ago, Narin Limcharoen, senior manager of the company's business customer service department, said.

RFID solutions will help Thailand Post offer one-stop services to businesses and customers who want to eliminate human error in transportation of consignments and mails. The technology will enable businesses to keep tabs on information such as the number of consignments, time of delivery and destination. The information will be stored in RFID tags.

Thailand Post chief operating officer Woodtipong Moleechad said the company decided to use RFID as it can help customers reduce the time between storage and delivery of customers' products.

This will help businesses cut logistic costs and increase productivity.

As a next step, the company is planning to implement the new solutions at 14 mail centres across the nation by the end of this year, Narin said.

Thailand Post delivers more than 2 billion items of mail and goods a year nationwide.

Next month, the company plans to start a food-delivery service, which will allow customers to order food from food shops and restaurants through Thailand Post's branch offices.
