Rainier weather helps dampen May vehicle sales

Wet weather is believed to be the cause of slow auto sales last month, when 54,900 vehicles were sold, up only 0.33 per cent from April, says Tri Petch Isuzu Sales.

Contributing to the growth was 38.49-per-cent month-on-month growth in the passenger-car segment, particularly for E20-capable vehicles.

Sales for the first five months of the year totalled 271,356 vehicles, up 13.4 per cent year on year. In the same period, 151,521 pickups were sold, representing slight growth of 5.48 per cent.

Toyota still leads the field, with a 41.85-per-cent market share, followed by Isuzu at 22.46 per cent and Honda at 12.96 per cent. - The Nation

Bacteria-repellent polyester

NanoHorizons and Indo Poly (Thailand), a part of Indorama Ventures, have become partners to produce distinctive polyester yarns with permanent anti-microbial properties.

NanoHorizons will supply its nanoscale silver anti-microbial additives to Indo Poly, which will incorporate them into textured and fully drawn polyester yarns.

Indo Poly says the yarns will provide permanent anti-microbial protection and anti-odour qualities.

Prabeer Mukherjee, Indo Poly's business head, said the partnership would offer unique, high-performance yarns that would exceed customers' expectations. - The Nation

More NGV in the Northeast

Two natural-gas-for-vehicles (NGV) "mother stations", in Saraburi and Khon Kaen, are now capable of providing 320 tonnes of NGV a day, up from 145 tonnes, to accommodate an increasing demand for the gas in the Northeast, says Energy Minister Poonpirom Liptapanlop.

At present, more than 78,000 vehicles are fuelled by the gas, and there have been complaints that NGV stations have been slow in expanding. - The Nation

Thailand all set to host Lions Club

More than 25,000 members of Lion's Clubs from around the world will gather at Impact Muang Thong Thani in Bangkok from June 23-27, says the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

Earlier, some hotels expressed concern that the country's political turmoil could force cancellation of the big event.

However, the TAT hopes it will enhance

the perception of Thailand as a premier destination for international conventions. - The Nation
