Senate to scrutinise the government

A group of 40 senators on Friday decided to push for a general debate designed to grill the government on its performance.

"The upcoming general debate is a warning for the government to shape up or risk facing a dismissal," senator Rosana Tositrakul said.

The motion for general debate will need the support of 50 senators and is expected to be filed next week. The debate is to take place this month, coinciding with the extraordinary House session.

Senator Kamnoon Sithisaman said he still hoped the prime minister would take the initiative to convene a HouseSenate session to solicit the views of lawmakers on how to overcome the present political predicament rather than face with the Senate grilling.
