When sound is not music to your ears

In a car audio environment, you will probably not bother if there is a slight sound coming from somewhere. However, the strange sounds, if unchecked can ultimately turn into an undesirable and annoying noise. Although you might not be able to eliminate the problem, you need to know what these are and how to reduce them.

Noises from Road and Outside

Noises can come from everywhere - engine whine, wind, exhaust, and assorted body rattles - but road noise is universally irritating and can make any system sound like mush in no time. To cope with the road and outside noises, you may need to install sound-dampening materials to seal your car cabin.

Noises from Alternator Whine

Sometimes, the biggest reason for noise in a car audio environment turns out to be alternator whine. Alternators are used in cars to charge the battery and to power a car's electric system when the engine is running. To rectify this, some installers put in a capacitor connected to dynamo charger so as to shield the electrical current to the ground.

Noises from electrical devices

Electrical door-mirror operations can interfere with the car audio system causing a humming sound. It may be due to defective switches, poor electrical shielding of cables or grounding. Check the grounding cord of the control switches, whether it is properly connected to the ground (GND) terminal. You may also use a small capacitor to reduce the noise or use diodes to connect to the GND. 

Noises from other sources

Noises from the car's air-conditioning can be resolved by using a capacitor to stabilise the voltage level of the thermostat and to shield the electrical current.

Noises from front light, tail light, windshield wiper and brake light are not too difficult to deal with, only if we know the cause of the noises and how to eliminate them.
