Responding to the threat posed by global warming, Unplugged Architect '08, the largest event for architectural innovation for world protection in Asean, has taken up the theme "Friendly with the Environment".
After its grand opening at Impact Muang Thong Thani today, many architectural innovations will be thrown open for public viewing tomorrow. The expo is spread across 75,000 square metres.
This year, more than 700 companies from Thailand and abroad will showcase technologies and innovative construction materials, focusing on conserving the environment.
The Siam Cement Group (SCG), the country's leading conglomerate, is presenting products and services under the theme "SCG: The Home Solution", which reflects its effort to respond to every possible customer need.
The company has earmarked a Bt40-million budget for the exposition.
It is the first time the group's three core business units - SCG Cement, SCG Building Materials and SCG Distribution - will display their vast range of products and services in a one-stop-shop booth spread across 1,800 square metres.
On behalf of SCG Distribution, the Home Mart booth will display the best representation of the "Home Solution" concept.
SCG Cement focuses on developing new products and creating value based on customer needs.
The cement unit is also presenting its innovations under the theme "Inspiration by Tiger", which is showcasing innovative decorations made with Tiger mortar and Tiger white-cement products. The company has also set up Asia's first plaster-technology centre, providing consultancy services for wall systems.
Visitors can register for a training programme at the centre.
SCG Building Materials is showcasing more than 20 brands of SCG products. These products and services reflect four concepts: "Green", concerning the environment; "Solution", solving problems and serving customer needs; "Inno", creating additional value from products; and "Style", addressing different customer lifestyles.
Apart from SCG, many other companies are showcasing their award-winning innovations. For example, Bathroom Design's intelligent whirlpool tub won the Best Design Award from among 3,203 products from 51 countries.
Teo Hong Silom, a comprehensive provider of innovative building and infrastructure services, will present Bolon flooring products in a collection called Eight, which won the iF Product Design Award.
Many other unique products, such as Heat Stop energy-saving glass from Thai-German Specialty Glass, are also being presented.
This special glass has been designed to keep heat out in the hot season and let it into the room in the cold season, thereby lessening the cooling and heating load.
Manufacturer and distributor Star Sanitaryware is introducing two new collections in an effort to present its products as elegant and fashionable.
These are just some of state-of-the-art innovations at Unplugged Architect '08. The Association of Siamese Architects under the royal patronage of His Majesty the King, the host of the expo, expects about 330,000 visitors when it opens to the public from tomorrow to next Sunday.
