Reshuffle of provincial governors influenced by politics: Pongpayom

Interior Ministry permanent secretary Pongpayom Wasaputi on Tuesday said the reshuffle of provincial governors and senior interior officials was justified although the political situation was a factor to effect the new assignments.



The Cabinet approved the new interior lineup, including 13 provincial governors.

Pongpayom dismissed speculation that Chiang Rai governor Preecha Kamolbutr  was transferred to Ayutthaya, seen as a demotion, because of his mishandling of the electoral fraud case against House Speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat. He argued that the case was under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission.

He also conceded that Nakhon Nayok governor Jetn Thanawat was moved to Khon Kaen, seen as a promotion, due to his ties with former deputy interior minister Sermsak Pongpanit, a close ally of expremier Thaksin Shinawatra.
