Pattani Governor Panu Uthairat led a group of police and provincial officials in exhibiting Ahama Harmah to members of the press.

Panu said Ahama is believed to have been involved in a number of violent incidents in Sai Buri district and functioned as a recruiter for the insurgent movement. He described Ahama as a "key leader".

The suspect was not permitted to speak to media representatives.

Meanwhile, a bomb was detonated yesterday morning in Yala city, killing one soldier.

Another explosion occurred in Than To district, Yala province, injuring a soldier.

In Pattani's Nong Chik district, suspected militants shot dead Suphawit Mitjan with automatic weapons and decapitated him with an axe late on Wednesday, police said.

Insurgents also set a booby trap for investigators who arrived at the crime scene yesterday morning. The blast injured two defence volunteers.
