Ballot probe: DSI to question Suthiphon

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will interrogate Election Commission secretary-general Suthiphon Thaveechaiygarn next week over the EC electoral-manipulation charge filed by Pol Colonel Sawek Pinsinchai.

Published on April 16, 2008

Sawek earlier submitted unused ballot papers he said pointed towards possible manipulation by the EC itself.

The DSI will question the printing house and the whole process of production and distribution.

A number of unused paper ballots found in some provinces earlier had gone missing.

New PAD rally

The anti-Thaksin Shinawatra People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) vowed to stage a large rally at the end of the month, said coordinator Suriyasai Katasila.

Suriyasai said the leaders would meet on Saturday to discuss various matters, including accepting new partners and dealing with new emerging issues, such as the recent threat to press freedom.

The major rally will focus on the topic of the government's plan to amend the 2007 junta-sponsored Constitution.

The PAD views the amendments as solely for the benefit of the government and meant to whitewash both it and ousted premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

Political airtime

All political parties with more than 50 MPs will get a chance to address the public through television and radio, the Election Commission said.

The move is a result of new EC regulations.
