Nokia Siemens Networks offers new EDGE-based solution

Nokia Siemens Networks has launched a downlink Dual Carrier EDGE (enhanced data rates for GSM evolution) software solution.

Published on April 1, 2008

The solution offers data speeds of up to 592 kbps to EDGE-capable GSM networks. The high speed enables a mobile broadband experience such as posting video clips to blogs in real time or streaming the latest news on cellphones.

The new product, which will be available as a software upgrade from the third quarter, is the first step toward evolving EDGE, the company said.

Nokia Siemens also plans to introduce EGPRS2 in its networks to further boost uplinking and downlinking speeds to 1.2 mbps and 473 kbps.
