Commerce Minister Mingkwan Sangsuwan said yesterday that the ministry had found evidence of speculation on piglet prices.
The Internal Trade Department also reported yesterday that farmers would be allowed to increase pig prices at the farm gate by Bt3 per kilo, bringing the price to Bt63. The move aims to offset the increase in farmers' production costs to Bt56-Bt57 per kilo due to rising raw material and oil prices.
Gas field delays may hit power bills
The fuel adjustment tariff committee will meet on Tuesday to discuss the possibility of higher costs of generating power next month because of a lower-than-expected supply of natural gas from the Arthit field.
Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand governor Sombat Santijaree said yesterday Egat would need to spend more than Bt600 million on bunker oil to produce electricity for 10 days in April. Three million litres of bunker oil will be needed, at an average price of Bt20.
Power from bunker oil costs Bt4 per unit, from natural gas Bt2.
About 160 million cubic feet of natural gas per day was expected from the Arthit field starting on March 16 - nearly a year later than scheduled.
