Tata will launch its Xenon 1-tonne pickup today at the Bangkok International Motor Show.
The Xenon is powered by a turbo-charged 2.5-litre common-rail diesel engine and expected to be competitive against the Japanese brands dominating the Thai market.
The Xenon is assembled from completely knocked-down kits in Samut Prakan province at the Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant, which also assembles Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai models.
Tata managing director Ravi Kant will be present at the launch today.
Apart from Thailand's lucrative pickup market, Tata is also interested in the eco-car project and has submitted an application to the Board of Investment.
Tata recently stunned the automotive world by introducing the Nano, the world's cheapest car at US$2,500 (Bt78,800). The Nano is expected to convert Indian consumers from motorcycles, due to its affordability.
