Court accepts to hear election fraud case against Yongyuth

The Supreme Court on Thursday accepted to hear the suit filed by the Election Commission to disqualify House Speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat for allegedly committing electoral frauds.

Yongyuth, People Power Party party list MP of Zone 1 and his sister La-ong Tiyapairat, Chiang Rai PPP MP are accused of violating MP Election Act.

Yongyuth has voluntarily stepped aside from his parliamentary duties after the EC ruled to disqualify him on February 26.

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said after his official visit to Singapore that Singapore ex-premier Lee Kuan Yew expressed concern over the fate of Yongyuth.

"He is concerned as Thai people are. The country has come this far and why there are still cases like this. I just thanked him for his concern,'' Samak said.

He said when he visited Cambodia, Prime Minister Hun Sen also asked him the same thing.
