Commerce denies GMO rice

Foreign Trade Department denied the reports that GMO (genetically modified organism) rice is mixed with Thai jasmine rice, insisting that Thailand has never allowed the plantation of such crop in the Kingdom.

Apiradee Tantraporn, director-general of the department, added that Thailand also sets the strategy to offer only GMO-free rice during 2008-2011. Thailand is also committed with Vietnam, another world-class rice exporter, not to grow and run researches on GMO rice.
