A telecom analyst at a foreign brokerage house said the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) has picked up and car sales have rebounded, positive signs for domestic consumption that will benefit all cellular operators.

The CCI bottomed out at 68.6 points last October and then gradually picked up to 71.2 in January. Car sales, another indicator, also rebounded strongly in January, with the number of units sold

surging 18 per cent on a yearly basis  in that month after a 7.4-per-cent drop for all of last year.

The share price of Advanced Info Service (AIS) closed at Bt100 yesterday, up from Bt99 a day earlier. Its share price has surged 32 per cent over the past 12 months. The share price of Total Access Communication closed at Bt45.25, up from Bt44.75 a day earlier. True's shares closed at Bt5.15, up from Bt5.05.

Recently, AIS chief executive Vikrom Sripataks told the press AIS expected to post higher revenue this year, due to the declining price war, but he would not to specify a target.

AIS posted total service revenue, excluding the interconnection revenue, of about Bt20 billion in last year's fourth quarter, up 9.8 per cent year on year and 5.4 per cent quarter on quarter.
