High court grants permission for Thaksin to travel abroad

The Supreme Court has granted its permission for former prime minister Thaksin Shinwatra to travel abroad from Thursday to April 10, Thaksin's spokesman Pongthep Thepkanchana said on Tuesday.

Thaksin is scheduled to leave for London a day after his arraignment on the Ratchadapisek land case, he said. The trip would cover many countries for a lecture tour at foreign universities.

In England, Thaksin has scheduled to attend a match by his Manchester City Football Club.

Pongthep said due to time constraints, Thaksin would not be meeting with General Prem Tinsulanonda, president of the Privy Council as anticipated.

Thaksin gave an interview this morning to foreign journalists but refused to talk to the local press.
