Lertrat is the favourite to win Senate Speaker
General Lertrat Ratanavanich who is among the favourites to win the votes for the Senate Speaker post denied he had had close ties with ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra.
Lertrat is one of the 74 appointed Senators selected by the selection committee.
"If I am close to him, how come I have never been appointed to any significant posts,'' he said.
Asked if he was ready to accept the Senate Speaker, he said he had worked at the top post in many agencies but it was up to others to judge if he was suitable as Senate Speaker.
