Sodsri clears Samak vote

Election Commissioner Sodsri Satayathum said Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej did not break any rules when casting his ballot in yesterday's Senate elections.

Samak checked his name on the list of voters, took his ballot into a booth, but then exited it to check candidates' numbers, saying he had forgotten the number of his preferred candidate.

Sodsri said Samak had sought permission from officials before leaving the booth.

The Election Act does not permit voters to remove ballots from polling stations, she said.

Samak and wife Khunying Surat voted at the Moo Ban Chokchai polling station.

The station's director, Chuachan Taepongsorat, said Samak did not break the law because he did not remove the ballot paper from the booth.
