The JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa isn't just serving its guests, it's also helping communities and the underprivileged.

The resort was recently involved in an "Aid for Aids" initiative, raising funds to help HIV-positive people at Wat Prabat Nampu in Lop Buri province.

Aid for Aids is a year-long campaign and part of the Marriott's Spirit to Serve Our Communities programme.

Forty-two managers are participating by organising activities to raise funds. The resort expects to collect more than Bt120,000 by the end of this year.

"We believe that with love and compassion we can return strength and hope to HIV-positive people," says general manager John Webb.

Run by local monks and totally reliant on donations, Wat Prabat Nampu serves as a hospice for people coping with Aids.
