S Koreans keep true to their billing

South Korea stamped their authority in the Asian Grand Prix winning seven gold medals, despite losing some of the thunder to Malaysia, who beat them in the men's recurve team event.

The Korean archers, tipped to run away with the overall crown after capturing six gold medals in the first two days, managed to win only a single gold medal yesterday. Yun Mi-jin, who won the women's individual recurve elimination round on Thursday, was instrumental in lifting the day's first gold, in the women's recurve team event. Japan and India took the silver and bronze medals respectively.

The men's compound team gold was won by Vietnam.

The Philippines proved that they are the strongest team in the women's compound event when their women's team, led by Jennifer D Chan, who captured three gold medals in the women's individual compound 70m shootout, the individual compound elimination round and the women's compound shootout, landed the compound team elimination round yesterday. Hong Kong took silver, while India claimed the day's third bronze medal.

The last medal, surprisingly, went to Malaysia. SEA Games gold medallist Chu Sian Cheng, who lost to Korean Lee Sang-hyun in the gold-medal match in the men's individual recurve elimination round the previous day, powered his team to victory in the men's recurve team gold. South Korea and Japan took home the silver and bronze medals respectively.

At the end of the three-day tournament, South Korea reigned supreme with seven gold, three silver and three bronze. The Philippines are second with four gold, one silver and one bronze, while Vietnam (2-2-0) finished third.
