ThaiBev's sale growth continues

Thai Beverage Plc, Thailand's largest liquor and beer maker, reported a Bt2.7 billion or 2 per cent annualised increase in 2007 sales to Bt100.54 billion.

Its net profit for 2007 stood at Bt10.38 billion, up 3.3 per cent or Bt328 million from the previous year.

Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi, president of Thai Beverage, said in a statement that he was pleased with the result after a very tough year in which competition remained very intense amid an economic slowdown and political uncertainty.

"Most of the growth came from the continued improvement of our brown spirits business," explained Thapana, "Many Thais were affected by the economic downturn and tax rises in 2007 to the extent they switched from imported brown spirits to locally produced brown spirits."
