Tawee Makmee was full of emotion when she described how her 14-year-old mixed-breed dog "Ai Ka" took two bullets to the leg when the man waved a gun and a knife in her face.
"He saved my life," Tawee Makmee said at a veterinary clinic. "He has always been loyal to me. I am so sad he was shot".
"Ai Ka" needed an operation to remove two bullets from his right front leg yesterday afternoon. Veterinarian Danai Sumanik said the dog would be given calcium in the hope its fractured bone will heal naturally and satisfactorily.
Tawee, 42, said the trouble began after she saw a male acquaintance called "To" quarrelling with a teenager while on her way home.
"I stopped my motorcycle to ask them why they were quarrelling," the factory worker said, "But then he [To] became very angry" and took out a knife and lunged at her.
"I ran to my house. But he broke in and pointed a gun at my head," Tawee said. "I was pleading for my life when my dog suddenly barked and jumped at the man." The man then shot "Ai Ka" twice.
"He pointed the gun back at me but I pleaded for my life and explained that I didn't intend to offend him from the very beginning. After some time, he agreed to leave without hurting me," Tawee said.
She rushed "Ai Ka" to the veterinary clinic. "Had he died, I would have been so sad. Now, I am so sorry he was shot in place of me," Tawee said. No arrest has been made.
