Ratiwatana twins break into top 50

A good run in San Jose last week propelled the Ratiwatana twins into the top 50 of the doubles rankings for the first time in the new ATP rankings updated yesterday.

Sonchat and Sanchai, who reached the semi-final of the American hardcourt tournament before losing to eventual champions Scott Lipsky and David Martin of the United States, climbed two notches, from 51 to 49.

The twins, currently in 16th spot in the championship race, are taking part in the on-going ATP tournament in Memphis in the hope of improving their rankings further, to make the cut for the Masters Series in Indian Wells.

Another Thai star enjoying a rise in the world rankings

is Tamarine Tanasugarn, who rose from 101 to 80 following

a strong show in Doha last

week.

As a qualifier, Tamarine reached the third round of the WTA tier-I event and produced an upset win over former world No 1 Amelie Mauresmo of France en route.

Meanwhile, in Nonthaburi, three Thais crashed out

in the third leg of the SAT-LTAT ITF Men's Futures tournament at the LTAT National

Tennis Development Centre yesterday.

Weerapat Doakmaiklee went down to second-seeded An Jae-sung of South Korea

1-6 2-6, Peerakit Siributwong lost to Japanese third seed Takahiro Terachi 6-7 (5/7) 6-4 0-6 and Kittiphong Wachiramanowong fell to Australian seventh seed Matthew Ebden 6-4 3-6 1-6.
