The 17-year-old student of Sathupradit Commercial School in Bangkok's Yannawa district was arrested on Saturday, a day after the incident.

Police said the suspect hired a motorcycle taxi to deliver 30 servings of cake, a bottle of carbonated drink and a box of juice to her fellow third-year computer programming students.

The 13 women and 12 men suffered severe stomach pain, vomiting and headaches. Most have been discharged from hospital.

Police said she was seeking revenge on classmates who had "attacked her and made it impossible for her to attend class".

The suspect said she was "very angry" after being suspended from class last Monday following a quarrel with a classmate. She asserted the suspension was "unfair" because the classmate was not punished, police said.

The woman was initially charged with physical assault and was later bailed into the care of her parents from Ban Pranee Remand Home. She will be questioned again tomorrow.

Lt-Colonel Krit Jangsang of the Bang Pongpang police said the Food and Drug Administration and Scientific Crime Detection Division were still testing the cake. If the poison used by the woman is found to be lethal, she will face attempted murder charges.
